Dharma School Celebrates Bodhi Day with “Enlightenment” Play
Much awaited plans to assemble at Iao’s Kepaniwai Gardens for WHM’s Bodhi day service did not materialize as light rains welcomed the few who drove in early to set up. Although it would have been nice to attend the service amidst the beautiful mountains and lush green environment of Iao Valley, the church members and dharma school students happily observed Bodhi day back at the temple. The students presented an impromptu play explaining the series of events that led up to Prince Siddhartha becoming the enlightened Shakyamuni Buddha on December 8, more than 2,500 years ago. For not having any practice at all, the students were willing to participate and did a wonderful job! After the service, delicious refreshments were provided and served by the dharma school teachers.
