Accessible Temple Restroom and Photo Voltaic System Purchase

The year 2019 marks Wailuku Hongwanji’s 120th year of spiritual and community service to our island’s residents. As part of this significant milestone, we will be undertaking two (2) projects intended to sustain the temple’s capacity to serve our community for another generation.

Project No. 1: Planning, design and construction of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible restroom in the Temple. This work will involve converting the current storage room near the Temple’s Vineyard Street entrance to an accessible restroom. The total estimated cost of the restroom facility, plus exterior utility line connection work is $115,000. Through the generous donations of the family of the late Kazu Sugiki and others, we have thus far made good progress in raising funds for the restroom project.
Project No. 2: Purchase of Wailuku Hongwanji’s rooftop Photo Voltaic (PV) system. Wailuku Hongwanji has received cost saving benefits of this renewable energy system since 2013. Under our agreement with the PV system provider, we are able to purchase the system in the year 2019 for a price of about $70,000. With full ownership of the system, we expect to realize significant energy cost savings, with the long-term benefit of achieving a greater level of financial self-sufficiency for the temple.

Fundraising Goal

Wailuku Hongwanji has a goal of raising $120,000 to support the implementation of the restroom and PV projects.

It is with humility and gratitude that we ask for support from our members and friends in helping us to reach this fundraising goal. Click here to download the WHM Donation Form
